An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned after some time after the personnel became aware the lady was not present.

A major hunt located her body the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that guests and personnel on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an latest statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" preventing any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The representative said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

The ship initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to join the voyage - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of trekking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the victim said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the ship left the location after an organised excursion without my mother".

In her statement, she described her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a lapse of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mother's existence".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she stated.

"They requested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, she passed away, by herself."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the Head affirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with investigators to support their examination".
