Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing the match official to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Following a drab midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on goal, the manager chose the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.
